Who’s Bia?
Nike the powerhouse of powerhouses. I’ve been a fan ever since I can remember. So much so, in 7th grade I had a the *original* idea to use it’s slogan to help me win the votes of my peers to secure my spot in the student body office. I wore my favorite orange and blue nike tracksuit paired with my luckiest b-ball kicks. Just do it, vote for Bre! Even with the best slogan, I didn’t get enough votes…..that's a story for another day. In all my years of loving Nike, it wasn’t until 2017 while reading New York Times Best Seller, Shoe Dog; A Memoir by the Creator of Nike by Phil Knight, I learned Nike was actually a greek goddess. The Goddess of Speed, Strength and Victory. It came as no surprise that Nike was a bb. She flew above battlefields, awarded victors, and was Zeus’ chief charioteer. Impressive, right?! Very.
Nike was a star player in keeping Zeus and his kingdom safe, no doubt! However, she wasn’t the only one. Three of Nike’s siblings were also guardians of Zeus, warriors in his battles, and gods/goddesses in their own rights. Bia, Nike’s little sister, being one. She was the goddess of raw energy, might and power. She was known for her spiritual might, bodily strength and strength of will. Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, knew her strengths and because so called her to bind down his greatest threat, the supreme trickster, Prometheus when no one else could. Bia defied the odds set against her by taking Prometheus’ power by unleashing her own. AND SHE DIDN’T STOP THERE. She bonded the threat then placed the torment on where it was deserved, on him, the tormentor.
Because Bia has no lines in history, her and her acts of strength were easily overshadowed and/or silenced.
Have you ever felt one-up’d by someone else’s pain? Overlooked because of social norms?
Loss of control of writing the lines of your own story? Wondered how to unleash your own power? Felt misplaced blame and/or torment? Afraid to live your truth?
After spending the last almost 5 years advocating for victims and girls everywhere, especially those who are silenced and/or overshadowed. I wanted to create a safe place full of hope, helpful resources and healing to enable YOU to unleash your own power, #likeBia
